JILI GAMES MPBL Betting: Moneyline, Spread and Total
MPBL odds come as three prices per game: a moneyline on the winner, a spread on the margin and a total on the combined score.
- JILI GAMES PK Betting
- PK is short for pick'em: a spread of zero, with no favourite and no underdog.
- JILI GAMES UFC Odds
- UFC odds start with a two-way price on the winner, with a favourite shown as a minus number and an underdog as a plus number.
In MPBL betting, four numbers decide what a bet pays: the price, the line, the stake and the result. The Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League, known as the MPBL, is a regional league, and a sportsbook prices each of its games the way it prices any basketball game: a moneyline, a spread and a total.
This page shows how those three prices are laid out and how each turns into a payout and an implied chance. Odds formats and market types in general are on the sports betting basics pillar. The games and prices below are made up to show the arithmetic.
The league behind the lines
Wikipedia’s entry on the league records the facts a bettor can check. The MPBL was launched on August 29, 2017, and its first season began on January 25, 2018, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City. The entry describes a location-based format with home and away games, and it says the Games and Amusements Board granted the league professional status on December 9, 2021.
| Fact | Date | Source |
|---|---|---|

| First season began, Smart Araneta Coliseum | January 25, 2018 | Wikipedia, saved 2026-10-24 |

None of that sets a price. A sportsbook sets the line from its own assessment, so the team names below are placeholders: Team A and Team B.
How MPBL betting lines are laid out
A game appears as two rows, one per team, with a column for each market. The screen below is a labelled example.
| Row | Moneyline | Spread | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Team A (home) | 1.45 | -6.5 at 1.91 | Over 168.5 at 1.91 |
| Team B (away) | 2.75 | +6.5 at 1.91 | Under 168.5 at 1.91 |
Prices are shown in decimal here. A sportsbook set to American odds shows -222 where this table shows 1.45, and +175 where it shows 2.75, because the conversion divides 100 by 0.45 for the favourite and multiplies 1.75 by 100 for the underdog.
Turning the moneyline into a payout and a chance
The moneyline asks only who wins. The payout is the stake times the decimal price, and the implied chance is 1 divided by the price.
- A ₱100 stake on Team A at 1.45 returns ₱145, a profit of ₱45. The implied chance is 1 divided by 1.45, about 69.0%.
- A ₱100 stake on Team B at 2.75 returns ₱275, a profit of ₱175. The implied chance is 1 divided by 2.75, about 36.4%.
- Add the two chances: 69.0% plus 36.4% is 105.3%. The 5.3 points above 100 are the sportsbook’s margin, which Wikipedia calls the overround.
Team A is the favourite and Team B the underdog, terms the Tennessee Sports Wagering Advisory Council glossary defines as the team expected to win and the team not expected to win.
Reading an MPBL spread
The spread adds points to one side and takes them from the other so that the two bets sit closer to a coin flip. Wizard of Odds describes it as a handicap given to the weaker team, or deducted from the stronger one.
With Team A at -6.5, a bet on Team A wins only if Team A wins by 7 or more. A bet on Team B at +6.5 wins if Team B wins outright or loses by 6 or fewer.
| Final score | Margin | Team A -6.5 | Team B +6.5 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Team A 90, Team B 82 | A by 8 | Wins | Loses |
| Team A 88, Team B 83 | A by 5 | Loses | Wins |
| Team A 79, Team B 84 | B by 5 | Loses | Wins |
At 1.91 on both sides, a ₱100 stake returns ₱191 when it wins. Each side implies about 52.4%, and the two together come to 104.7%.
A whole-number line behaves differently. If the line were -6 and Team A won by exactly 6, the bet is a push, and as the Wikipedia entry on point spreads puts it, the game is considered no action and no money is won or lost. Half-point lines remove that outcome.
Reading an MPBL total
The total ignores who wins. It asks whether the two scores added together finish over or under the number, here 168.5.
- Team A 90, Team B 82 totals 172. That is over 168.5, so the over wins.
- Team A 85, Team B 80 totals 165. That is under 168.5, so the under wins.
- A total of exactly 168 would be a push if the line were the whole number 168.
Wikipedia’s point spread entry gives the same logic in its own example: a total set at 44.5 with a final of 41 means the under wins, and 61 means the over wins.
Checking before you stake
The spread screen shows -6.5 at 1.91 and the total shows 168.5 at 1.91, so the two bets look identical in value.
Equal prices do not make equal bets. The spread bets on the margin and the total bets on the combined score, so a game can land on opposite sides of both lines. Treat each as its own bet with its own stake.
The final score is in, but the sportsbook has not settled the bet.
Settlement follows the sportsbook’s own rules, including whether overtime counts and how a postponed game is handled. Find the settlement or house rules section of that sportsbook and read the basketball entry there.
For the zero-handicap version of a spread, see the PK betting page on pick’em lines. Combat-sport prices work differently, and the UFC odds page for fighter prices shows how.

FAQ
What markets are offered on an MPBL game?
The three standard ones are the moneyline (who wins), the spread (does a side win after points are added or taken away) and the total (do both teams combined score over or under a number). A sportsbook may add more, and its own market list shows which.
How do I work out the payout on MPBL odds?
Multiply the stake by the decimal price. A ₱100 stake at 1.91 returns ₱191, which is ₱91 of profit plus the ₱100 stake. American and fractional prices convert to decimal first.
What does a spread of -6.5 mean in an MPBL game?
The team marked -6.5 must win by 7 or more points for a bet on it to win. A bet on the other side, shown as +6.5, wins if that team wins or loses by 6 or fewer. The half-point means the bet cannot be refunded as a push.
Are the MPBL prices on this page real?
No. Every price here is a labelled example with round numbers chosen to show the arithmetic. Real prices appear on a sportsbook's own screen and change before the game.
